Soooo Wintersession at RISD started a week ago, and I'm taking the Sci-Fi/Fantasy Illustration class. So far it's been an awesome class. We're all just a bunch of geeks, even the teacher.

Our first assignment was to design an alien. Not aliens from outer space or anything, but in the broadest definition: "any kind of being whether based on science fiction or fantasy". Originally this here was supposed to be a hybrid humanoid of a red panda and a giraffe, but it slowly became ... uh. This ... thing.

Actually it's supposed to be a member of a Savanna-roaming boar-hunting tribe, the Aperughi, who also have folk magic tied to their religion. This one is the Shaman/Witch Doctor of the group.

Now I must work more. This design is due tomorrow and I need to draw more concepts for it, among other things.

Tell-tale miyazaki influences? Reminds me of Mononoke Hime, almost. In a good way.

I have this feeling that one day I'll pick up a videogame and think "I think I know the artist for this." Excellent work, mademoiselle.

I'm really blown away! What an amazing concept! And it's really executed beautifully. UGH, I want to take that class!! It sounds JAMMIN'.
